After careful consideration I have selected the winner of this highly coveted award. It may surprise a lot of people that I’ve not based it on trophies or league positions but there’s a lot more to football than that. I award it to .....🎺🎺🎺🎺🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 .....AFC Porth. Yes AFC Porth. They were cruelly left up the creek without a paddle in the summer due to the manager and his players jumping ship in the middle of the night . For a club to then fulfil its fixtures week on week in the knowledge that it’s 95% certain they’re going to get heavily beat is amazing. To cajole and somehow lift players to travel here there and everywhere in order to get a comprehensive spanking is even more amazing. To persevere and come back for more after taking one of the heaviest defeats ever seen in the WL is thoroughly applaudable. The community spirit and pride displayed must have been splendid and a shining example to the kids teams at the club. Football is a game we should enjoy but on rare occasions it can maim or crucify us. Their occasions weren’t rare. It must have been soul destroying for the players and small committee but they refused to go under. They kept going, they kept trying and more importantly they kept believing. That attitude is like gold dust these days. People of AFC Porth I truly hope the good times will arrive back at Dinas Park again because nobody deserves it more. Well done and enjoy the break you deserve that too.

I agree with Vogdog. To carry on every week with the soul destroying defeats can’t have been easy but carry on they did with the same enthusiasm and dedication. That’s all down to the amazing efforts of Huw and Neil, two fantastic guys who live and breathe A.F.C. Porth. Rest assured they will bounce back. But in the meantime, have a great summer guys and come back refreshed and ready to go again!

So based on stats it has to be either of the 3 league winners. Has been a good effort by Porth but not team of the season for me

Absolutely. Ll M topped it and deserve it. Simple as that. The best team always wins. Porth bottomed it and...deserved it. Not hard really

It’s Voggers’ own made up award, he can give it to anyone he likes. It doesn’t say BEST club of the season either.

For the best team to finish top they have to beat the other teams. The tables indicate who the best teams are. That’s not rocket science. My opinion and category is not results based. Application, attitude and trying to make the best out of difficult circumstances are just a few ingredients that I look for. I hope that Porth don’t feel patronised by my opinion it’s certainly not meant in that way. If it was all just about the best team then what would be the point ? P 30, W 1, D 2, pt 5, GD -101... team of season? Yeah you got it spot on there.

Thanks to almost every one for the concerns apart from the condescending PT Ultras, already made plenty of friends on here,.not for me chasing an unachievable Welsh Prem Slot and alienating your entire fan base ...no thanks? plenty have tried and plenty have failed Ebbw Vale the latest casualty. We are very proud to play, and represent the town of Porth, in Porth, wherever that may take us. several years ago when Cambrian were in the Amateur league we as a club were approached re a merger, we were going thro a bad patch, they had the team, we had the Welsh league status, it was quite obvious to me the name, club of Porth would been swallowed up, we resisted, they of course have gone on to grace the Welsh league, a win,win situation in the end but it was close.. only the casting vote by the Chairman Neil saved the day, out of a committee of 9 who toke that vote only Neil and I remain... We have a young local enthusiastic manager,we will bounce back, but with local lads not mercenaries,as soon as the money dries up they are off, the lads this year have been immense, cant fault them Been overwhelmed by the vast majority of clubs who wish us well on a saturday, really are some great people in the Welsh league Football Family. Roll on Aug 11th ..

Well said Voggers, and well replied Huw. You are big enough to recognise your mistakes and I know you will get things right. AFC Porth is a good club with their community at heart, something those who will sell their sole need to remember, Porth will still be around for a good few seasons yet, where will the glory seekers be?
