It’s a fantastic attendance record to be proud of when comparing to the rest of the league. Better than most Scottish first an 2nd division sides too. So stick that up yer kilt and weep wee laddie.

I’m another who personally doesn’t like to see the club named after a product or company or something that isn’t terrotorial but it is what it is and if that’s the only means for progress for some clubs then good on them. On the subject I hear that a certain Gwent club have forged a working connection with a Swiss Super League club. Well done Goyten on your ground - breaking link up with Young Boys

As someone who was on the staff of Inter CableTel I can confirm that statement is nonsense. We had a decent contingent of fans there who travelled up by coach and car who the police wanted to take straight into the ground 'under guard'. Fortunately we got wind of this and they came into Glasgow by a different route and spent pre-match in the Celtic Supporters Club. As for the black balloons being waved by Inter CableTel staff, that's even bigger nonsense. I think there may have been local CableTel employees there who turned the evening into a party but I think they were in a different part of the ground. I think your memory may be failing you slightly, the staff with the balloons were in the official away section. Together with a bunch of travelling support from several other clubs that had travelled up on the bus for the giggles of an away game. But none of that is strictly relevant to the main point of the argument. I couldn't, personally, get emotionally involved with a team called Inter CableTel. I'm not claiming Barry as any special case with their supporter base. There's no need for folk to get defensive about this being a Barry is the best thread. That's absolutely not the intention. Lots of work to do there, and incidentally, I contribute nothing but the occasional entrance money. They are attempting to grow the support, and one very good way is to finally be a club with community connections. Those dark days of just being a first team at the whim of an owner have gone and the place is now full of family taking pictures of their kids having the half time kick around, or leading the players out. If that's seen as a non-legitimate way of growing the crowd then I really am out of sync with some opinions on here. But the numbers are still small. A town catchment area of 40,000 or so, crowds that represent 1 or 2 per cent of that figure. Lots of potential for growth. But imagine if we could all get 2% of our local population to a game. 700 through the gates at Pontypridd week in week out would change their outlook. Plus, a crowd of 700 would probably generate atmosphere and lead to a virtuous spiral of people attending because people are attending. For Ponty, you could equally say Cwmbran. A 2% population attendance would get them that same 700 or 800 through the gate. Same for Ebbw Vale, Bridgend etc etc. I know that we'd get a bigger gate as a season opening game if we played a Llanelli rather than a Swansea Uni etc.. But that's not an attempt to give 'town' clubs any sort of free pass to the big time. Incidentally, 'South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education FC' must've been a hell of a long scarf for the ultras.

Genuine question: If Barry are so proud of their history, how come there’s nothing in the refurbished bar/clubhouse in terms of memorabilia celebrating the ‘glory days’?

Genuine question: If Barry are so proud of their history, how come there’s nothing in the refurbished bar/clubhouse in terms of memorabilia celebrating the ‘glory days’? 'Glory Days'?? Barry town utd are a a different team than Barry Town. The ground may be the same but they are 2 different teams! Barry Town lost their identity when the administrators came in, I still find it hard to believe that the club wasn't relegated to the basement of the local Barry league & made to start again. They must have some pull on the WL board as they only dropped 2 leagues to div 3, I would place a bet no other club would have the same treatment. Still riding the wave of the 'old days', pathetic really, move on. Barry fans bad mouthing the MET, the students have achieved more in the last 5 years than Barry will in 10, that's with out paying players and a style of football that can rival TNS. Jealousy is a terrible thing but realise for the foreseeable future Barry will be in the shadow of the MET.

Does the word Bursary mean anything to you ? intensive yes, maybe, doesn't have anything to do with style of play and results does it? That was one point of many on my original post. Ponder on this, the MET players are all under 26/27, not one senior player to guide the ship, they will only get better.

Look again at the meaning of BURSARY please regarding one of your statements re Cardiff Met.Surely you also know that all their players do not stay on 'ad infinitum'as the students usually leave Uni after they qualify. As I have said previously on the Forum the Met are doing really well in the Premier as are Barry in their first season so how about some praise for all our clubs who are working so hard to survive and please their supporters. All the very best to Llanelli in the Premier League.

Does the word Bursary mean anything to you ? Is that not a stab in at the MET? People usually hate what they don't understand or afraid of, keyboard warriors. I totally agree that teams should be commended for what they have achieved, how ever big or small.

Just a point, Cardiff Met run 6 teams (male) and 2 Teams (Female) in the British University football championships. The mens first team ( not the same team as Welsh prem) recently won the southern Premier league and retained the British University National championship cup. This in turn means more students want to study in Wales, which means more money into the welsh economy.

Genuine question: If Barry are so proud of their history, how come there’s nothing in the refurbished bar/clubhouse in terms of memorabilia celebrating the ‘glory days’? Isn't there an entire wall of history? Perhaps you were facing the wrong way? Seriously though, I believe there are plans afoot to add to it. There were certainly a few items worthy of display that 'disappeared' when a previous owner with personal demons to contend with was finally ousted. But again, this wasn't an attempt as putting down some teams. Best of luck to them, it's for others to do better. I absolutely do not advocate a free pass for particular types of clubs. What I would like, is 'proper' clubs based in towns, those towns to be in Wales, attracting bigger crowds than they currently do. All this without needing to be named after a shop or factory or college. Barry's average attendance of about 550 or whatever might be marginally more, but it's hardly setting the world alight. There's no hate here, just footy chatter. As for welshboi's comments, well that's either genuine ignorance of the background and findings of the legal case, or fake ignorance for trolling purposes. Either way, you fill your boots mate.

Carmarthen now just 5 points behind Aberystwyth and they are set to play each other soon.
Could get interesting for the teams up and down the pyramid...

What a load of bull!! Everybody knows that Dai Coles gives free tickets to the schools for every match. About 350 of the 550 crowd are non paying kids. People from Barry don’t watch them because many don’t like The Secretary and manager. Fan led club but only if these 2 agree with it.
