Just signed up here - two questions:
How happy are you with the coverage of the Welsh League (in particular, Div One)?
Whats the general opinion on the Welsh League website?
Personally find it's a bit dated but get the impression that nobody is bothered about the change.

Great question. I personally think the coverage of The Welsh League is a joke to be blunt. The Welsh League website is out dated to say the least. Press coverage is not the best, in South East Wales the Argus is dominated by Newport County & Rugby. You can find more news on individual club websites which are much better the the WFL website. The clubs admin people seem to take pride in updating their sites and have a feel for what the WFL fans want. I would love to see the WFL take a leaf out of the many club volunteers book and get a more up to date website with video capability. This is a facility that clubs like Cambrian & Clydach and Monmouth Town have both embrace with excellent results. More press coverage is a must!!!!
also Monmouth Town have

I think the Welshleague website is excellent. Tony Griffiths has worked his socks off over the past few years keeping it up to date. If it wasnt for the site the league would get no coverage whatsoever because the Welshleague get hardly any coverage in the press.

I agree wholeheartedly Ian. Tony Griffiths is doing a fantastic job for us all. But the actual website needs an update to bring it inline with other football websites around. Tony's hard work should be given the platform it commands and deserves.

Just to make my point clear, I have no intention in criticising anyone and it goes without saying that Tony Griffiths works hard and accurately to produce the content on his side. I want this thread to a constructive discussion and not to single anyone out.
Personally, I would like to see more match detail such as goalscorers from matches etc and an improvement on the sites navigation. Look at the Cymru Alliance site - it is considerably better to access.
The wealth of information on the Welsh League site could be a lot better presented and maintained. Social networking could also be used to improve the league's profile and share info.
Thanks for the points raised so far though.

I am a regular watcher of welsh lge matches and browse websites to get all the news, have to agree Tony has done a superb job in getting the site to where it is. terry phillips write the welsh lge reveiws for the echo and usually its all about Barry Town. The ametuer lge is a good website with a guestbook, South Wales senior lge is a good website full of information even the Aberdare valley football lge website which is local lge football has a weekly newsletter giving lots of coverage for the teams in that valley.Welsh premier lge has a newsletter i know its voluntary work but surely with this lge being the biggest in south wales should be more informative and have a direct line to the south wales echo withour barry bias??

Tony's work is fantastic for us WL hacks but is it the league's job to market the clubs?
Even from a Monmouth point of view I'm wondering how 'fancy' the web has to be as most of the informtion is now static and FB and Twitter are probably better for live news.
I've seen plenty of jazzy web sites that say nothing. "All fur coat and no knickers" my nan used to say.
Bottom line is tat we need volunteers to do all of this stuff and it does take up a lot of time

That's got me thinking Lee. If we were to create a FB page for ALL WL clubs to use, then a nominated person from each club could give us live updates for everyone to follow. It maybe worth a try. What does everyone think.

Hi Lee - who do you write for? I tend to agree with alot you say but basic info such as scorers and making the site more accessible is the league's job and they should be encouraging clubs to step up to the mark.
FB Postman - Great idea, although twitter would probably be better for that, and that could automatically link into facebook. Would be interesting to see if there is any dialogue between the clubs and or/the league regarding this, although I guess it's unlikely.

AGREE THAT THE WEBSITE COULD BE UPDATED, BUT REMEMBER THE swaMATEUR lEAGUE SITE IS CENSORED, THE WEBMASTER DEIDES WHAT GOES ON THERE. iF THIS FORUM IS ANYTHING LIKE WHAT YOU WANT, THEN CENSORSHIP IS NECESSARY, THE RUBBISH THAT IS TALKED ABOUT HERE IS INFLAMATORY,PETTY AND DOWNRIGHT INSULTING TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN IN FOOTBALL FOR A LONG TIME, IF YOU WANT TO CALL SOMEONE A USELESS PRAT (0R WORDS TO THAT EFFECT) HAVE THE COURAGE TO PUT YOUR NAME TO IT

Neutral observer: i've not got into Twitter yet, but yes, it could work. Let's hope there are other like minded people out there. Over to you fellow Welsh League fans, what do think? Is it a goer?

Yes I can see were your coming from Scril, and you have a point. But I was thinking more of just posting live scores with half time & full time results. Then maybe we would avoid any aggro. I'm just thinking out loud.

I warned Ton sometime ago that by them going on to facebook and twitter it would destroy their general message board which was one of the most interesting in the Welsh League. If you look at their message board you will see that messages are few and far between. I am sure that Scril who was a regular poster on their site would agree. There has been a lot of concern about the security factor of those two mediums and a great deal of controversy. Many older people do not go on these because they prefer a more straight forward way of expressing views and do not want to be bombarded with people that want to be their friend.

FairPlay: Yes, you could be right. It may not be worth the hassle :-(. Pity really.
Can't think of any other way of doing it.
Are there anymore ideas out there to improve the general match day info of Welsh League games getting to the fans quickly? It's frustrating for me to know that I can find out how Scottish Leagues and even lower English Leagues are getting on on a Saturday, but hear nothing of the Welsh League clubs. Surely that's not right.
Am I flogging a dead horse lads?
