Caerau 13-0 Treowen! What were they thinking? They "only" needed an 11-0 win to leap-frog Goytre into a promotion slot. 13-0 just looks silly I bet Goytre are fuming though...

How right you are and would expect any club in Goytres position to feel the same. Treowen were on tour therefore fielded their coaches, reserves and youngsters. This is not right or fair. Something must be done to put it right.

Jim'll fix it! You can't blame Caerau though! Trevor owen has some questions to answer though....just makes a mockery of the game adn of the whole league to be honest. They should be ashamed of themselves!

The League should look into this incident.
I don't think there is anything they can do about the result as such, but, surely as the people running the league they should consider sanctions against Treowen for: -
1. Arranging a tour for a weekend during the season. 2. If it was pre-booked before the extention to the season, why on earth Treowen picked the date they were all on tour to schedule this match for - after all the scheduled games finished on the 12th of April so they had a hell of a lot of different dates they culd have used.
This is completely outrageous - and I am reliably informed that the previous week they confessed to having rolled over for another team to ensure they survived because it would be less travelling for them next season than the alternative who were from West Wales.
The whole thing stinks. If I was Goytre I would have to question if I wanted to be involved in this league any more if this can be allowed to happen!

The league has to sanction any tours during the football season, which i assume they have done, so what can they really say? I would say who are the league to say who the manager can pick but the premier league with Wolves last season and Blackpool this season have set the presendent so I'm sure the MWL will follow! However, I'm sure Treown were not the only team to have gone away this weekend, perhaps they just have the worst second team ;D All in all though, if i was a Goytre man i would be absolutely tamping - should be a cracking game next season

A total disgrace and Treowen need investigating though thats not going to help Goytre's cause. It was either fixed beforehand by the 2 clubs or Treown decided to cheat by alowing this to happen. A TOTAL DISGRACE TO THE GAME OF FOOTBALL AND OF COURSE THE WELSH LEAGUE.

....clearly in the rules to field your strongest team. Deduct 20 points and relegate them. Total disrespect for the game, league and all other teams. Down they go! Have the committee got the balls?

Agree with Jimmy that if found guilty of fielding a substandard team with less than 4 regular first team players there should be a heavy fine and be relegated from the Division. Their goals against total for the season[including 13 nil] should be divided by the number of games played and then that figure would be the recorded score for Caerau v Treowen which would allow Goytre to be promoted. I know that this has never been done before but their disregard of the Welsh League and a fellow club certainly deserves it.

....Each Club shall play its full strength in all League matches. The fine for non-observance of this Rule to be at the discretion of the Management Committee.
I fear its too late for Goytre but a huge message needs to be sent out to clubs who so fundamentally breach the spirit of the game. I see their manager said that Goytre shouldn't have relied on them ....it's not an unreasonable position to think that 11 - 0 would be beyond any team on any given Saturday. A sad end.

Anyone remember this..
.....there are cases where a team not only lost (which might be honest) but lost by some large amount, perhaps to ensure a point spread was covered, or to grant some non-gambling related favor to the victor. Perhaps the most famous alleged example was the match between Argentina and Peru in the 1978 FIFA World Cup. Argentina needed a four goal victory to advance over Brazil, an enormous margin at this level of competition, especially since Argentina had a weak offense (6 goals in 5 games) and Peru a stout defence (6 goals allowed in 5 games). Yet somehow, Argentina won 6-0. Much was made over the fact that the Peruvian goalkeeper was born in Argentina, and Peru was dependent on Argentinian grain shipments, but nothing was ever proven.

Looking at the Treown manager's reasoning on the website he seems to have chosen his strongest team, albeit cause half the players weren't there.
To my knowledge two first teamers played - IS IT NOT THE LEAGUES FAULT FOR ALLOWING THEM TO GO ON TOUR WHEN THEY HAVE A FIXTURE?

Quite simply Treowen cannot be trusted so they should be relegated out of the league and replaced by a team that can be trusted. There's no evidence to say that Caerau were in on the act but mud sticks as they say.Their promotion is a travesty and I hope that one day they get their come uppance
