Not this season obviously, but in future seasons, with each division being two teams lighter and each team playing four less league games per season, is it time to look at promotion play-offs?
Reduce the auto spots to two and then have four play-off positions beneath. It could keep some clubs' season going for a lot longer, and the 2-leg semis could immediately follow the last weekend of the domestic season (like in English non-league).
I quite like the idea even if it means sometimes the team in 6th goes up instead of 3rd. Any thoughts? Perhaps play-offs just over -complicate things?

Fair enough. I guess even with four fewer league games per season re-arranged games may still force a season extension. It'll be interesting to see which month the 2011/12 season finishes in as theoretically the season will start on time and all divisions will have 16 teams.
