Chepstow Town 3-0 Cwmbran Celtic
On a warm afternoon the game started with Cwmbran Celtic on the front foot with Chepstow working very hard to stay with them. Then the Cwmbran CELTIC no 3 went into a very strong Challenge and unfortunately came off for the worst and was stretched off with a suspected broken leg (which has now been confirmed as a badly sprained ankle) which could take between 4 - 8 weeks to recover and we wish him all the best.
On 12 minutes Chepstow took the lead after some great work down the right with a perfect cross landing at the feet of Richard Sharrett who calmly slotted it in to the corner to put the Town 1- 0 up. Following this Chepstow maintained on top and were good for their lead and could easily have gone in 3 or 4 up after totally dominating the visiting first division side.
After the break and what I'm sure was a rollicking Cwmbran came out and immediately piled the pressure onto the Chepstow side who defended very well to limit Cwmbran to a few chances with fullback Richard Goodwin and Ashley Palmer having very good Games.
Then after some good football down the Left the ball was played into Mark Dunns feet who turned sharply and slotted the ball into the bottom left Corned to put a bit of space between the two Teams. Then on 82 minutes old stalwart Mathew Owen as always giving a performance many youngsters would be proud of was bundled over by the Cwmbran Celtic keeper Nicky Church, who was surprisingly allowed to stay on the pitch. Richard Sharrett calmly slotted the ball hard and low into the bottom right corner to complete an excellent victory over higher placed opposition giving great hope of a good season ahead.
