I joined this board to find out more information about a certain situation when I was getting nowhere when trying to contact poorly-run club websites (I won't name it - I'm sure they know who they are). Over the last few weeks I have been very impressed and learned a lot about the Welsh League and the FAW from people far more knowledgeable than I am, who contribute to this board. There are, as with any open forum, the occasional bigot or idiot who wants to stir up inter-club hatred but there are far more who know what they are talking about and I am sure there are plenty who, like me, can spot bigots and idiots a mile away. Keep it up - I'm a big fan of the board. Incidentally, isn't there a rule that club websites should be updated fairly regularly? Nothing turns people off more than going to a website to find that the last entry was last year, that only one person is named on the list of committee members or that the headlines refer to a match played in 2011. It's poor PR, it doesn't look good to potential sponsorship sources and it shows a rather slipshod attitude towards professionalism which I presume is the ultimate aim of any team which joins the pyramid system.

We got told we had to have an up to date website to enter the league 4 years ago (and thankfully it's still up to date) - there are loads of clubs with poorly maintained websites though and I too wondered about this rule.
I'm not sure if Facebook and Twitter pages have took over a bit and deemed acceptable?

To be honest, I have to agree that the Pontypridd Town website is an embarrassment. I have only been with the club for a year and I was told on many occasions last season that the guy who maintains the website would be updating. Sadly, apart from a few results that were added before last Christmas, the rest of the site has been totally neglected. It was frustrating for me as I wanted it kept up to date. I have now got bored of waiting so I am in the process of setting up a new website for Pontypridd Town. It's nothing fancy and it is using the my club website template, which is a bit basic. But at least it will be updated regularly. At least that's the plan!!! However, at the moment, I am feeling totally pissed off with Welsh football after what's happened with Chepstow and I just feel let down by the FAW and Welsh League. To be honest, I feel like walking away from it all. I dare say when the season is almost here then I might feel differently but at the moment I have lost my Welsh League mojo!

Barry ran things like websites well last season, and look at the treatment they got for it.

I do agree though, at Barry we use the Club Website template, but it gets the message out there and is easy to navigate and update. In this day and age, and as Barry have found out over the last decade, football is business, and where are 99% of businesses found in the western world these days? Online. To not have an up to date website, even if its just a committed supporter with some spare time to do it, is missing out on a big opportunity as a club to attract publicity, new supporters, new sponsors and breed success. I totally agree with 'Ontherecord' and the first post on this thread, and I think it very short sighted and shows a lack of ambition from clubs that fail to maintain a basic website But then hey, we're only supporters, and I'm only a supporter of a club with no league to play in, and happen to be a man who has run his own fitness business, what do i know about marketing and publicity....

Nice one Rocky, you are absolutely right. I run a Facebook page and a website and they are VERY worthwhile. I maintain both virtually every day but I can update them on the fly and it takes no more than half-an-hour to produce updated copy and/or photographs, so there really isn't a good reason why websites are allowed to deteriorate. I must admit I'm not into Twitter - I've tried it and found it boring and banal. If there is a move to drag the FAW and Welsh League screaming and kicking into the 21st Century, let's hope the less-progressive clubs follow them or decide to join a Sunday League instead of taking up valuable places in pyramid leagues, instead. Good luck with your club's current battle. Barry Town has always been watched with jealousy and envy by clubs who are run on mid-20th century lines and now they see the opportunity to topple a giant of Welsh football, they are rubbing their hands. Vindictiveness and peevishness instead of working together to sort out what sounds like an horrendous state of affairs. Those who have wanted to see the demise of Barry Town should look out - it could be their club next!!

Nice to meet people on the board who share the same passions and ideas, I wonder if the powers that be take any notice of what's said on these boards... Then again, they'd have to have an internet connection for that...

I won't be holding my breath waiting for their replies, Rocky! In the absence of an official Welsh League messageboard (if there is one, I have still to locate it), you would think officials would want to know what the people they are supposed to represent are thinking. That's the trouble, these officials have power and while some can handle it, others allow it to go to their heads. Anything that isn't official must be bad in their eyes so it is ignored. But they ignore it at their peril.
