True, it doesn't look great at all. But if UEFA are happy for them to play Euro games there then it must be up to a certain standard... What annoys me about the WL is that not enough is done to attract spectators/fans. When at half time you're faced with taking a pee in the bushes or a ten minute round trip (this goes for playerss too!) you have wonder if it's anything more than parks football, which the WL is meant to be above! And as for trying to take a female along to a game with such poor facilities! There's a tier 2 licence due to be enforced by 2012/13 (i believe). Hopefully a mixture of FAW grants for ambitious tier 2/3 clubs (the WPL clubs don't need grants now they're fully licenced) plus cutting the wage bill a bit / increased fundraising will see improved facilities for both players and spectators...at what is the second tier of a national pyramid. I fully expect abuse now because the team i support plays at a council facility (which i hate BTW). But before i finish, can i remind you that we have no seats (nor are likely to) and the tier 2 licence requires seats....

CC I would agree with most of what you say there tbh...
I think the tier 2 licence is going to be a good thing if implemented correctly. There are some bits in there that really make no sense to me whatsoever when compared to the cost to the club concerned. But on the whole there is a lot more good than bad in it. I am particularly pleased to see so much focus of Youth & required qualification levels for Coaches & Managers etc..
I must take issue with all these Clubs being told they need to rip up the paths they "simply had to have" a couple of years ago because their pitch is 4 yards too short though. Ideal world - great. Bigger pitches are great. But what the benefit is of clubs having to rip up newly laid paths to add a yard or so seems exteme to me. But that is merely my opinion.
I think one thing that is a glaring absentee from the plan though is something that relates to the quality of playing surface. It just seems bizarre that the one thing that can have more effect than any other over the style of football and type of game played is left out. Working in the Golf industry as I do, I can assure you there are ways of measuring a surface's quality in much the same way we do in Golf.
On the whole though - a good thing.

But it's not just ripping up newly laid path's. Dont forget, most clubs will have to rip out the barrier going around at least one side of the pitch, to add a yard or two. Who's going to pay far that. Not the FAW. Maybe if they entry into the league a bit stricter (sorry CC) then there wouldn't need all this panic. All that's needed is a minimum for each division. That way, it will stop clubs spending money on players, instead of facilities. And before anyone jumps on their high horse, i'm NOT having a go at ANY club.

In all fairness the criteria has been given well in advance to allow clubs to prepare and fund the projects they need to get in place. Since that meeting with Andrew Howard at Aberavon Hotel back in October how many clubs have lifted a finger even though they fall short of what will be needed?? So with the greatest respect what will moaning achieve apart from wasted time and energy? I'm sure we all have varying opinions and criticisms of the criteria but ultimately we have to adhere to them so surely it's best we get our arses in gear to fall in line. It seems that FAW want a level playing field (pardon the pun) so it seems only fair that there's consistency with pitch sizes. We've recently come to the Welsh League from the SW Senior League and had the misfortune of annually having to travel to one particular ground that was ridiculously small. It actually meant us having to change our formation to adapt to the pitch dimensions such was the squeeze. Advantage home team and out of the window went any consistencies.

Gifster, take a look here: deotmkk3pi1un.cloudfront.net/images/PDF/dl1.pdf. It's only in draft format, but it covers most things. Gareth - i see your point re: pitch size. But consider this: if the tier two criteria allows smaller dimensions, then they'll never be in a position to obtain the WPL DL. I think the idea of the Tier 2 DL is to provide a manageable stepping stone to the WPL DL. And i believe "Tier 2" refers to WLD1, so Treharris (the only pitch i can think of that falls short of the required) will be okay in D2 or 3 but won't be allowed in D1 for example. The thing is, how many clubs "forced" into conforming to the Tier 2 DL actually want to aim for the WPL? Is there an argument for D1 being made up of clubs who are capable/have the inclination to step up to the WPL? I don't know! I do wholly agree with you re: pitch quality though, and this is something the WPL could include on their DL! You should offer your services as a consultant Ron - i agree re: a stricter entry! Sorry for waffling! Good topic of debate though

Why are floodlights always seen as the big deal? A lot of money/planning/cost for very little return. Better off buying tractors and sit on mowers and getting some groundstaff. See GM above. I can barely type over 140 characters now after twitter.

we would all love the best facilities in the world, I applied for £181 k to improve Dinas Park, floodlights, new toilet block, disabled access, first aid room etc, got turned down, spent weeks on the project, when enquired why was told that as our pitch was 2yds short of the 2009 criteria we couldnt get a grant as we might be removed from the welsh lge if we dont lengthen it!!! The 2009 criteria has to be met by april 2013, not when I applied for the WGi grant we must adhere to the 2004 criteria which does not mention pitch size. Mind have asked for a remeasure as the team that turned up had to borrow a tape measure as the one they were inspecting with wasnt long enough, I kid you not !!!!!
