So we've discussed Monmouth's incredible goalscoring feats already, but what about the league's meanest defences? The two that stand out for me are Cambrian, who have conceded 5 in their 10 games; and Caerleon who have just 4 goals against in their 8 league games. Cam have shored up a defence that could have been the difference between 3rd place and champions last season and are sitting top of the pile. Caerleon even managed to keep Monmouth to just 2 goals, with their other goals against coming in a 2-1 win over Bettws and a 1-0 defeat at Tata Steel. Quite an impressive record so far and they're clearly great at the back. Interestingly both clubs' goalkeepers are relatively short. Cam's Jarrad Howells is about 5'9 on a good day, and Keiron Blackburn of Caerleon would get a fair amount of change out of 6 foot. Considering the football world's addiction to big, tall goalkeepers, we do have a lot of smaller guys in the WL - Dan Bradley of Barry is arguably one of the better keepers in Div 1 at around 5'9 and the great Lee Kendall is hardly a giant either. Apologies to any BFG's I might have offended At the other end of the scale there are clearly some very entertaining matches involving teams like Treharris (averaging nearly 4 goals against per game) and Llangeinor (over 5!)

Anothe clean sheet for cambrian. And an interesting fact, they have not conceded a goal first in any match this season league and cup. A good defence along with the leagues top scorer looking good

An I thought Dan Mac played in the league below? So Cam do have the leagues top scorer? Unless Monmouth have been promoted over night?

Quite right Mishman I suppose we should remind some people that the top four league goalscorers are from the 2nd and 3rd divisions.

maybe that's because all the best keepers and defenders play in division 1

Jeffers, I think supporters would prefer to see more goals in games than less because of good defences and keepers. Football is about entertainment and with the first div scoring only 311 the 2nd div 372 and the 3rd div 399 I know what most supporters would prefer to see.

I don't agree with that at all. People want to see a good standard of football and quality goals, but there's nothing entertaining about seeing Llangeinor get hammered 8-0 every week.

Not every game and why have a go at a club who are obviously fighting to survive.

You can not compare the goal Scoring record from one division to another! Next thing we be comparing someone scoring in div 2 to that of the welsh premier! Dan is scoring 2/3 goals pet game in div 2 but I think he would struggle to match that at a higher level.

just an example really as they have the worst goal difference in the league. i wasn't "having a go at them" at all.
i think any football fan wants to see a good competitive game where both sides play their part. i certainly wouldn't want to watch my club strolling around winning 5-0 every week and i'm sure the reverse is true.
for me the most exciting and most attended games that i have witnessed have been Rhondda derbies between Cambrian and Ton Pentre and i don't recall too many huge scorelines in those games.
all i'm saying is goals do not necessarily equal entertainment.
statistically, the average goals per game for each league is below:
Division 1: 3.27 goals per game Division 2: 3.79 goals per game Division 3: 4.11 goals per game
We're hardly lacking in goals for any of the divisions then, you probably get 1 more goal per game in Div 3 than Div 1 but I don't think that makes it a more attractive spectacle for fans.

each to their own, we are all passionate about our own clubs and its interests. One of our season ticket holders said on Saturday "you need to increase the entry fee cos everyone's getting more than value for money". ..... surely thats what its all about. Its our first season in this league and we are enjoying every second of it......tougher opposition, better grounds and ultimately better football matches. Roll on Saturday !
