Quite a few 'Gwenters' watching this one yesterday.....Any opinions or comments about the game?

I watched this one saturday and to be fair I thought the result flattered Monmouth...they were out played in the second half. The ym hit the woodwork twice and the monmouth goalie made a few worldie saves.. It also reiterated how weak Monmouth are on set pieces and corners...if the ym had scored I think from what I saw they would have gone on to win. I've watched Monmouth play a few times this season and I feel one week they will be on the wrong end of a few goals against. But on a positive they are unbeaten so they must be doing something right!

An interesting take on the game. Reasonably accurate but shallow interpretation of what went on which doesn't bear much analysis. Any reasonable assessmnt says top of the table goes to second place and grab 3 points with rearguard action. 'Outplayed'? Probably not given a 2 goal half time lead. Defend it or not defend? YM had nothing to lose which clearly liberates them. "Weak, if , would, feel". Nothing substantial then just suppostion not borne out by the clean sheet never mind it was hard work. "They are unbeaten so must be doing something right" Unbeaten? Something right? Damned with faint praise. I think its a bit more substantial than that just have a look at the table and the back end of last season. Besides, play badly and beat the 2nd placed side on thier manor? I'll take it! Football - doncha just love it.

I've got to be fair, Monmouth Town are a very good side and the results prove it. owever, I also feel that division 2 is a very poor standard this year. I have watched quite a few games and I honestly think division 3 is a better standard (well, the top half anyway).
There will be good teams in every league and Monmouth are doing all they need to walk through division 2 without dropping many points.
Good luck to them I say.

I'll agree that division 2 is weak this year, but I feel that the Gwent sides are holding there own especially with the Gwent derbies thrown into the mix. Monmouth are a good team (im not denying that Lee) as you say the position you are in and the results dont lie... Opinion is that would Monmouth be where they are if it wasnt for Dan Macdonald...they say one player doesnt make a team but he is an influential stalwart of your team!
I think you will get promoted and be top 5 in the first if you can keep the team together...its good to see a team full of local talent

Cheers lunchbox! Clearly we wouldn't be as good without our best players that's self evident. No team would be. I love Dan to bits and he is exceptional but it wasn't his body flying in the way of YM shots, making last ditch tackles and point blank saves. Teams win titles. Top five div 1? I'd die happy!

personally i'd suggest that Messrs Pass, Bowen, Alderdice and Ford would all be worthy of mentioning when talking about Monmouth's key figures.
i watched them beat Croesyceiliog 5-0 away from home and although McDonald didn't score that day, they had no problem finding the net.

Monmouth are a good team. But i would agree that div 2 is not the best this season. There is a big gap between div 1 and div 2 and i think top 5 for the current Monmouth team would be a very good season in div 1. Look at Ton Pentre unbeaten in div 2 last season an only won 4 out of 13 this season!

"I've watched Monmouth play a few times this season and I feel one week they will be on the wrong end of a few goals against."
Without sounding like I told you so Lee...
Having played against Tata Steel this year and lost they are a very under rated team and it is a difficult place to get a result! Was it just a bad day at the office or were they just more clinical?

ah...was waiting for that They were better than us on the day and took their chances, two from horrible defenserve mix ups. We were decidedly off colour, didn't compete, and looked a bit sorry for oursleves. But they'll be there or thereabouts come end of April.

I agree Lee...its three teams from Monmouth, Croesy, Caerleon, The YM, Tata Steel, Penrhiwceiber. Its going to be an interesting end to the season especially if we have a snowy period between now and Jan...3 games a week is always fun!

Monmouth & Caerleon plus 1 for me.
I must admit I know nothing about Tata Steel - if they beat Monmouth 4-0 they're sure to be a contender.
