can only see Bridgend and maybe Taffs Well causing an upset there. the biggest surprise for me is that Merthyr Saints have somehow sneaked in!

Really does get to me that the 'English teams' have been allowed back into this competition. They are now having 2 bites of the cherry ... playing in the FA cup and Welsh cup. Well im dam sure that my club will be applying to enter the FA cup next season.

Newport v Barry might be played on a Sunday if NCFC's message board is to be believed. they play Lincoln in the BSP on that Saturday.

The likes of Wrexham,Newport should have been pitched into the very first draw the same as all Welsh League clubs. The fact they ply their trade in the English pyramid is their perogative and obviously makes better business sense to them however the fact they can walk into the WC at latter stages and be within grasp of prize money doesn't seem fair on us clubs who've carried the cost of playing games in the earlier stages. With a little bit of enterprise and lady luck a prelim or first round tie at home to one of these clubs could possibly have injected serious cash into some of the Welsh League clubs. Good luck to all the remaining WL clubs (and Merthyr Saints) in the next round.

Good call Streewise.
However, if the English-based sides only intend on playing their reserves/youth then they might as well not bother entering. It's hardly going to enhance the competition...

if you look at the bigger picture then it's great for the competition that these two clubs have been allowed in, and potentially great for Welsh League clubs, plus i think it's a bit unrealistic expecting them to enter at an earlier stage than the Welsh Premier clubs.
Personally i think Wrexham will treat the competition with respect, not sure about Newport, it's just a shame that both those sides didn't get drawn away against teams below the Welsh Prem

The FAW should not be looking after these 'English clubs'. They choose to play in a different system. All Welsh football money should be going to Welsh football.

They do chose to play in a different system - and i know which one id prefer to play in.
However, Imagine your club drawing Wrexham at home - you'dd make a killing - surely that's a benefit.

Shall we let Rangers and Celtic into the FA Cup as well?

Rangers & Celtic are in Scotland so I think not ;D The teams invited into the WC are Welsh geographically so it makes sense. When I were a lad teams such as Shrewsbury,Kidderminster,Halesown, Hereford etc were invited in without an eyebrow raised. In addition when Bridgend Town and Barry Town were plying their trade in the Southern League they were invited in. I just feel that they should be made to enter at the first hurdle and not get preferential treatment over us teams playing within the Welsh pyramid thats all. Wrexham are skint so for the sake of £39 entry fee to the WC they are favourites to win big prize money should they take the competition seriously. If they dont take it serious perhaps they are better off than they make out !

Yes you are right they were invited in but they were not allowed to win it. Remember there is a place in Europe at stake as well.

So a mixed Newport County team beat Barry Town 3-2 last night. I wasn't there but from what I've heard it sounded like a good game. County were quick to praise the Barry fans and were impressed with a couple of the players.
Would be interested to get a Barry fan's perspective.
