This South Wales Alliance Division one local derby match was always going to be a close affair. The game was switched to the Kymco Stadium early in the week due to the condition of Cornellys pitch and the bad weather forecast. Cefn top of the League unbeaten in 12 league matches must have felt quietly confident as they had already beaten Cornelly 2-nil at Cae Gof first game of the season. However revitalised Cornelly having lost 6 of their first 7 league games, were themselves on a 10 match unbeaten league. Manager Ryan Blanche and his coaching staff have had an impact with the squad and they play a nice style of football. There was an impressive crowd of 155 (children not included) at the match today, a record I think for both teams. Cornelly first half totally dominated the game and went in half time 1 nil up although it could have easily been 5 second half the teams just cancelled each other out and the match finished 1-0 to Cornelly. Penybont are really fortunate to have such good facilities and an amazing ground at the Kymco Stadium. It was a great pleasure to have watched two local rivalries battle it out on such a good ground other than a muddy bog that seems the normal situation of late. One of my better Saturday excursions

Spot on john1970 it was a good day yesterday at Penybont, I'm told the club chairman was pressed into duty in the bar rounding up glasses as it was so busy. The amount of fans that turned up took them by surprise. But when you're used to catering for around two dozen supporters coming through the gate around 175 was a shock for them. As I was home from E London yesterday I took in the game as I had never previously seen football at this level. And all in all I have to say I was impressed. Everyone deserved a lot of praise and Cornelly even put out an excellent programme. Two well drilled sides provided for a lively derby match and well done to the referee whoever he was for controlling the game so well. With so much football yesterday called off (this is why I mentioned this game earlier in the week) this match certainly filled the "football fix" this weekend for fans in gthe area.

to john1970 it was a good local derby but I would just like to state in my recent memory of being apart of Cornelly United fc the record attendance was the following which I have stated below which was a ground hoppers day Cornelly United v Porthcawl Town Athletic
6pm 28 August 2016
South Wales Alliance League, Division One Cornelly United 2 Porthcawl Town Athletic 1 (att 351)

'You can talk about anything here'. That sentence is underneath the heading of General Board which means just that. We see all sorts of discussions on here and some people believe that 'variety is the spice of life'. I am interested in all levels of football and probably many of us started in parks football. Just one other thing and that is you also have young people looking at this forum so please moderate your language. Well done Cornelly

No discussing two teams from the same league as Penydarren who have walked all over more than one Welsh League team this season Also Cornelly United 5 seasons ago beat Pontardawe Town in the Welsh Cup when Pontardawe Town were a Welsh League division one club. I am actually surprised that you should comment with a "Fuck off" as I have always found your contribution to this forum quite constructive and respectful. But no problems that respect for you has gone now, maybe you had one to many shandy's before commenting or possibly as the conversation is about crowds over 150 people you were a bit jealous as not many Welsh League teams actually manage that Muppet
