After last seasons 2 encounters, this game was eagerly anticipated from both camps.
Ton were unchanged from the side that won 3-0 at Taffs Well on the season opener but were a shadow of that side as Porth dominated the opening 20 minutes but without a clear goal threat.
Ton were struggling to play any sort of decent football, and the back 3 of Lewis, Young and Dwyer were keeping the bulldogs in the game. The first notable ball Ton put into the Porth box saw Dwyer head back across goal and an awkward ball for Lee Michaels saw the centre half turn the ball into his own net.
This saw the game become more open, williams should have made it 2 just before half time but his lob was easily caught by Hall.
Porth started the second half as they started the first, Ton were always under the cosh and if it wasnt for poor finishing and good goalkeeping from Howe, and still consistent defending, Ton could have found themselves 3 down. Fortunately for Ton, Porth hadnt scored and were punished when Antoniazzi fired a shot far post and the unlucky Michaels slicing the ball into the net to give Ton a 2-0 lead.
Porths body language looked like they had been hung, drawn and quartered and it took them 10 minutes to get back on the ball, but an equaliser from Davies with 11 minutes remaining met for an exciting finally for the neutral. By this time Ton legends, Morris, Hughes and Jones were on the park to try and maintain damage limitation. With the game wide open and half chances at either end the game opened up again when Antoniazzi was sent off for his second caution of the night. Porth pushed hard, but Ton limited them to shotts from long range and Ton were much relieved when the referee called time on the game. FT Ton Pentre 2, Porth 1.
A poor performance from Ton Pentre and the 3 points were welcome but probably not deserved.
