This is how it's supposed to work: One up from D1 to WPL and one down. 3 up to D3 would then mean 5 down to make D3 into 16 clubs. Of course this can easily be buggered up if no SW club comes down from the WPL or no club goes up from D1. And then of course it's rare for 3 to come up to D3, which would mean less drop down... Leagues that supply D3 can be seen here: cwmbrantownafc.co.uk/Pyramid.aspxAs you can see, Gwent supply one, the two Cardiff leagues supply one between them (they have a play-off if there's an applicant from both), and the 4 west Wales league supply one (and yes, there may need to be a play-off!). The last club to come from the west was South Gower, and before them West End and Ystradgynlais. Hope that helps

I think u mean South Wales leagues - I doubt the valley / Port Talbot clubs would be happy to be classed as Cardiff

Apologies. You are right, South Wales leagues not Cardiff leagues. There are two of each, so i confused myself!

There wont be any play-offs this year as far as im aware. 1 from each of senior and amateur leagues and 1 from Gwent County if there grounds meet standards, which is a whole new topic!!!

I can confirm that the team currently leading the Senior League have been told there will be no playoff!!
I don't see how that works personally!

in reply to your post sir about promotion to welsh league i can confirm that bridgend st are the only team from the senior league to apply for welsh league status and are currently leading the table and there new ground will fly the welsh league inspection on the 1st of feb. also 5 teams from the amateur league have applied but not one of there grounds are ready for welsh league football. only one other and this is a point to argue about , if ton and gelli win the league they ground share with ton pentre , now work that one out. Have it on good account to that 5 teams will be relagated this year from div 3 I for one would like to see 4 teams promoted every season from the feeder leagues and would keep the promotion issue very intresting indeed

Spot on bob why should a team have to play off after winning there respective leagues It should mean automatic promotion if your ground meets welsh league standard and you win your league. To many welsh league clubs have there ground in tatters and use this as an excuse to remain in the league Great idea also to promote 4 teams every season and get rid of the clubs that have there so called stands and dugouts falling over Go and have a look at dinas powys stand and one example for poor changing rooms caerleon , shocking

Perhaps they could merge the Senior and Amateur leagues in divisions 1-4, and have the top two going up...? Never understood the point of having two parallel leagues that cover the same area....

It was the power search of one individual formerly of the South Wales FA who, unable to dictate to the Amateur League decided to set up a league of his own!
Merger will never happen because the members of each league Management Committee would not want to give up their own positions of power and influence - sound familiar??

...then you don't deserve a team going up from both leagues...sort it out! Don't reward egos or cowards!

Thanks for the info. And yes, it does sound familiar!!
In which case, the current status quo of the two leagues only ever providing one promoted team sounds fair to me.
It's a shame the western clubs can't be persuaded to apply, but the costs involved clubs like Newcastle Emlyn have to bear each season must be tough...
