alot of clubs are now faced with 3 games a week until the end of the season because number of postponements. It happens every season so surely something needs to be done to tackle the problem. If the welsh league issued fixtures for bank holidays it would hopefully minimise the season to the equivalent of a few weeks. Also bring the season forward to the first saturday in August. There will no doubt be pros and cons regarding ground availability due to other sports but maybe a radical approach might grind out some sort of solution. Anyone have any other ideas?

A lot of the problems stem from the fact that a lot of clubs do not want to play midweek games in the winter. They're happy to play 3 or 4 games a week in April. Trouble is, there's a lot of clubs who live in the dark ages and don't want to progress. They're happy to survive rather than get better.

For me the answer is simple.
Schedule midweek games at clubs with lights

I totally agree Gareth. However, some teams won't even entertain a midweek visit in the dark winter months.

I agree - but they shouldn't have the option IMO
Same as these clubs who turn down semi finals & finals at their grounds!

I was told by the Welsh League scribe, Terry Daley, that only 21 out of the 48 member clubs have floodlights. That is less than half!!! To be honest, I think floodlights should be mandatory for first division clubs. There's quite a few who are more than happy to blow their budgets on the field but won't spend a penny off the field. Hopefully the Welsh League management committee will stick to their guns and force clubs out who don't adhere to the ground grading criteria. It's the only way that we are going to improve standards!

A number of years ago the Welsh League were planning to have the First Division with Floodlights as the main criteria plus the standard facilities as per the rules.

I hope the welsh league management carry out there radical changes to welsh league ground criteria because some of the grounds are shocking. Welsh league div 1 is the main feeder league to the welsh premier and should be made up from clubs who have the best grounds and that includes floodlights. Just look at the 1st div at the moment and there are 3 or 4 whose grounds are simply not up to the standard that should be the norm for the main feeder to the welsh prem. If we are to looking to improve facilities for supporters then grounds must be brought up to standard and clubs who choose not to comply must make way for clubs who are willing to get the required criteria.

Nothing better than a night game in the cold. (and a pint of Taffys)
