4. Between the middle of May and early June 2019, the FAW will be undertaking a comprehensive training programme to train all clubs in Wales on how to use the COMET system, ahead of the 2019/20 season player registration window opening.

It is our intention to train several kep personnel from your club Committee, who in turn would then set-up other users on the system within your club and show them how to use the COMET system.

We will be arranging multiple training sessions in each Area Association during this period.

Further information will follow in the coming weeks once the training schedule has been finalised.

In the meantime, in order to help us gauge which days and times are likely to be the most popular to hold training sessions on, can you please indicate which of the following sessions your club would be able to attend. A club only needs to attend one training session.

Following the last FAW Executive Committee meeting in February 2019, it was agreed to evaluate two different Player Membership Options moving forwards.

We would therefore like to receive your feedback on the one you think best suits your Club, players and leagues.

Option A - 'Premium Membership Package'

Annual Fee (per player):

Adults - £10.00
Juniors & Minis - £5.00

Early Bird discount - 50% discount off the above fees for all player registrations processed by the middle of July 2019 (Early Bird discount applies to 2019/20 season only).

Benefits included with this fee:

Complimentary player personal accident insurance cover (Please click here to access policy information/cover)

15% off FAW merchandise at JD Sports

All FAW Playing Members will be automatically entered into a monthly prize draw and have opportunity to win tickets, playing kit and training equipment for their team

FAW would pay each league £2 for every player registered within their league

Option B - 'Basic Membership Package'

Annual Fee (per player):

Adults - £5.00
Juniors & Minis - £2.50

Early Bird discount - 50% discount off the above fees for all player registrations processed by the end of July 2019 (Early Bird discount applies to the 2019/20 season only)

NO player personal accident insurance cover or any other benefits would be included within these fees.

NO discount off FAW merchandise at JD Sports

NO monthly prize draw to win tickets, playing kit and training equipment for their team

FAW would pay each league £1.50 for every player registered within their league.

Please note that Clubs will be required to pay the Annual Playing Membership fees to the FAW and the Clubs would be responsible for collecting the monies from its players.

You realise that cubs already have to pay to register players right ? This is an increase but it’s not new. Also it’s one fee per season (if I’m reading it right) not for each registration (i.e. no additional fee if player transfers).

Whilst this new process is being put in place club volunteers are going to be under a lot of stress. The FAW are asking a lot of these "amateurs" ( and i am not using that word disparingley) who put their time and effort into running their clubs.
If in the long run the system saves them work then all and good but it seems to me that the clubs are going to do the FAW's Registration Departments work for them and get nothing in return.
Is this system being used in any of the other home countries and if so how did it go in the beginning?
Will it solve the Foreign Clearance problem that some clubs have suffered in years gone by?
More importantly have the FAW done due diligence on the system!!

At a meeting of the four west wales leagues the guy from the faw was virtually thrown out after delivering his blueprint. He said it was being used by other nations in europe but not which ones. He was told system couldn't work at a local level as most people are volunteers and haven't got time or expertise no matter how much training is given. Most clubs at local league exist financially week to week and he couldn't see it

Of Course I realise we pay, at present its £1.00 per player. So option 1 is a 900% increase whereas option 2 is a 400% increase. Is this is fair? They quote less work for the volunteers within a club, yet its finances clubs need, volunteers do the work for free. FAW living in a dream world

Or 400% and 250% before 31 July. Not really enough to bankrupt a club.

Well a lot of local league clubs will struggle if not go under, its hard enough keeping up with massively inflated pitch permits, 50 registered players for a club could cost £450.00 more a year, not much to established clubs with sponsors and possibly income from sales club houses etc, them clubs are in the minority, open your eyes to the pressures on grass roots football

That’s not £450 more than you pay now though is it, because you are already paying to register your players. Agreed it is an increase but to be honest, I suspect the FAW thinks there are too many clubs and isn’t bothered if a few go under. We’ve seen that from all the ground criteria goings-on. Also, Ive been involved in grass-roots football for a long time so my eyes are already open.

having done a question and answer session with the comet group, If anyone out their thinks they can ignore this then a big shock is coming.
This will be in place for next season for current welsh league level, and all football in wales from following season. You can bury your head but this works throughout Europe and although will take time to bed in it is coming!

The way it looks to me (on the surface based on the little I have seen) is that it’s a player’s individual membership, perhaps the players need to pay this.
