Took a visit to Goytre United last night to watch the Welsh League Division One match Goytre United v Afan Lido. This was my first visit to Goytre, and how impressed I was. The ground was a credit to them and their officers were polite and professional. The match was an entertaining affair with Goytre United dominating from start to finish. Going in at half time 3-0 up it should had been five. But I couldn’t believe the way the Afan Lido players and officials behaved. They were beaten well and fairly on the night but they gave the match referree hell. The language the players used together with their management and committee was a disgrace. They verbally abused the three match officials all night. They couldn’t argue about the result but should be totally ashamed of themselves. The Referree was put through a lot. Ben Williams of Llanelli was efficient and refferreed the game well. My only criticism of him was he should have sent several Lido players off. I will not be watching Afan Lido again because they were an embarrassment to the Welsh League. They have no Devine right to win, They are a shambles and a load of loud mouthed big time Charlie’s. Never will I watch them again or take my son to watch them. Well done Goytre United, a professional outfit on and off the pitch.

I think if I was a referee these days, I would carry a small dictaphone with me, even on the pitch, then whenever someone decides to have a go, produce it and start recording, then politely ask what it was they wanted to say. Or maybe not produce it and record what was said anyway.

With unclefester on this one, except a suitable recording device to be provided by FAW, could even be a camera (like cyclists wear on helmets), trial in South and Mid championship next season. Never know it may encourage more referees (possibly former players) to come forward, if they had this sort of "protection"
