A few shocks in the welsh cup today. Division one aristocrats Taffs Well were humiliated by a middle of the table Gwent County League club and another division one club Afan lido got turned over by Cwmbran Town. Embarrassing for the welsh league. After all the managerial merry go round at Taffs Well they are quite obviously sinking at an alarming rate. That’s their worst result in living memory and I can’t see it getting any better. Maybe they need a completely new face and a change of leadership. I know Bambi and he’s a great bloke but Taffs Well being at the foot of the table and bottling it against a bang average Gwent County team is totally unacceptable so it looks like some brave decisions need to be made immediately.

The Taffs Well formula.....
Don’t do what Norma dictates = Sacked within 4 weeks (Gough, Harris, Baah)
Do as you’re told = No problem 👍🏻
Only recent exception is the guys who won 5 trophies - Bustle & Bridgy I believe

Sure were some shocks yesterday in Welsh Cup....+ a mention too for Blaenrhondda who won 2-1 at the Village People. Though Ynysddu 2 Taffs Well 1 + Cwmbran Town 3 Afan Lido 2 were also eyebrow-raising results the real shock came at Trefelin who lost to their old pals Swansea University 2-1.

Wonderful comments from Anthony pandy ( changed his name to Oggy Moore)
Can I ask who you follow? Dig a lot of clubs out on here don’t you fair play.
On paper should Taffs Well have beaten us yesterday, yes of course but why don’t you come along and watch a game of ours one day before commenting that we are “bang average”. We have lost 1 game in 12 months, bang average sides do not do that. In the last 2 rounds of the welsh cup we have beaten Division 2 leaders Croesyceiliog ( only side to beat them this year) and Taffs Well, albeit a struggling one at the moment but still a very strong outfit. We have welsh League clubs chasing out players regular so they can’t be that average.
Shocks can happen regularly but to pull of 2 on the bounce takes more than than a bang average side. Remember when STM were slammed for losing to an exceptional Penydarren side!
The elitism of some individuals in and around the welsh league strikes again!

Listen butty there’s no elitism at all. The last time I checked you’re in the Gwent County League. You are what you are. Blowing your trumpet can be your undoing so I’ll be watching your results with interest. Congratulations with your win but this highlights how bad Taffs Well are more than how good you are. Obviously raising your game while they bottled it from what I’ve been reliably informed. When you get a promotion to the Welsh League then you can bleat about yourselves. Cwmbran Town beating Lido was a bigger shock because Taffs Well have been lining themselves up for a defeat like this for a long time. It saddens me to say they are like a ship without a sail and have no spine. Too many voices too many egos and not enough quality. Simple. I watched the Ynysddu v Taffs Well game it was a deserved victory for Ynysddu. It was the worst Taffs Well side I've ever seen thou. As For Ynysddu they look like a team of Gwent County standard who all work for each other , they look like they can raise their game for cup games but didn't have the quality for Welsh league in my opinion. I also overheard that they cannot ever get to Welsh League as they have no ground to call their own. Saying that I would happily watch them again in the Gwent County.

Maybe they could play at Leckwith 😁

We currently play on the 3G at Pontllanfraith leisure centre, however this is something we have been working on for the last 6 months and hope to have this resolved before the start of next season. Our plan is to meet the criteria needed by April 2020. Lot of work to do yet but we are getting there and have a lot of what is needed in place. I would agree we are not ready in terms of playing either. Its been mentioned a few times that the Gwent County / alliance is the same standard as Welsh League but i disagree. There are some clubs within both leagues who will hold their own but the overall standard is a big difference. Its all well and good doing it in cup games but the consistency of a 30 game season is a different story. We have progressed massively over the last 2 years and hopefully the progress over the next 2 years will help us get where we want to be.

Nice to here and good luck
The teams that go up from the Gwent league seem to have struggled lately

What happened to the old ynysddu ground, that they used to play at back in the amatuer league days? Short walk from the changing rooms but surely decent place to work on things.

What happened to the old ynysddu ground, that they used to play at back in the amatuer league days? Short walk from the changing rooms but surely decent place to work on things. It was shared with the rugby team and as the years have gone by the Maintenance on it has become so poor from the council I t was no longer suitable. It used to only be used for first team football and rugby but the rugby use it for youth on a Sunday morning, seniors Saturday afternoon and ladies Sunday afternoon. With the rugby club also next to the pitch there is no chance of them ever moving We decided to move to the 3G because of the amount of games we were having to call off and the rugby club getting priority on there

I've always watched my local teams and used to play for South Wales Switchgear we had a fabulous pitch just up the road from Ynysddu and their pitch was fantastic too. Unfortunately Ynysddu have lost their identity playing up at Blackwood and have hardly any local players playing for them they all play for Watsville who play in the same Division. They have done the same as Risca, Trethomas and the Buds at one point although they have now moved back home, by moving out of their home village but obviously on a lower level. I think the Ynysddu management team know they will never reach Welsh league but obviously they have to dangle the carrot to keep their players. However there is nothing wrong with being a good Gwent County team although the standard is poor and has dropped significantly the last few years. Good luck to them thou they seem a good bunch .

It wasnt an easy decision to move but a neccesity. Wattsville have done exactly the same, they share the same pitch as us so they have moved even further away from when you consider they are 2 miles further down the valley. In terms of local players, the club was on the verge of folding so we had no option but to try and recruit elsewhere. Wattsville have a good bunch of local players and to keep the 2 clubs competitive was never going to be possible with local players. But the major issue with us "losing our identity" was no local committee members, 95% of the community were rugby fans and when the club was on the verge there was zero involvement so people from outside did what they thought was right. Wattsville were founded by a few players who were not happy at Ynysddu during the grim times and have done well. For us it was either a change of identity or lose the club altogether. We would move back to Ynysddu tomorrow if it was a viable option but the Council cannot provide us with anything that is suitable long term unfortunately As for the Welsh league conversation, we are not ready both playing and infrastucture but never use it to keep players. We've lost a good few over the past few years to Welsh League clubs and also signed a few from them. Players come and go but we will never stop players progressing.
