Can't believe this, Llanelly v Penybont off tonight yet Caerau v Newport City is on. Can the Caerau lights see out 90mins? Biggest surprise though as Voggie will surely agree is Ely Rangers calling their game off tonight.

Just when you thought it couldn't get more unbelievable, it's just become even more unbelievable. I refer of course to the Punt Talbet boiler going on the blink and game off tomorrow with Caerau Ely. What odds would you have got on the Punt Talbet boiler conking?

Third unbelievable episode. Newport make an 80-mile round trip to Caerau on a pleasant December night only to find the Riverboat resembling Porthcawl harbour at low tide.........and game off. Goes without saying Newport chappies aren't happy campers. Still worse things have happened at sea - but not many. Trust they enjoyed the bus trip.

Having travelled all the way there on a freezing Friday night in December after being told at 2pm that the pitch passed an inspection is disgusting! The referee I’m told was laughing at the state of the pitch when he himself arrived, not a spot of rain all day and it was a bog simple as that ! The top half of the pitch was a mess let alone down the slope. It was obvious to me that caerau wanted the game on as they were warming up when the Newport boys arrived. Absolute Shambles !!!

Sympathies, City. Players obviously make great sacrifices to make a fixture like this and don't deserve all the inconvenience involved. Best wishes for the remainder of the season.

I’m more surprised that Caerau’s victorian floodlights stayed on long enough for the referee to inspect their latrine of a pitch. Does anyone in the Caerau & Maesteg areas have a brain cell or any ounce of foresight ? It looks like they’ll have to cough up substantially for Newport’s compensation for tonight. ( i ) Travelling expenses from and back to Gobby Stadium in Newport. ( ii ) The severe emotional cost of them missing the last Friday night session in 2017 of The Gwent Doggers Society (Newport West Branch). Anyhow Caerau big congratulations on yet again screwing up the day for yet another bunch of fellows hoping to play and watch a game of football. You are certainly consistent in doing that. A disgrace in every sense of the word. Disgrace.

Yes, Caerau sure are making a name for themselves this season.......for all the wrong reasons. The Merse episode with Pontyclun when the lights went out got them 15 minutes of fame. And now they get Newport City involved in a wild goose chase just to enjoy the delights of the Llynfi Valley countryside on a pleasant December night when Newport would have been happier making merry. But like I said in the original post on this thread it beggared belief given weather conditons how the game could ever be played on the Riverboat last night. Still this is the Welsh League we know and love, but not for much longer if those FAW chappies get their way and start to dismantle it in season 2019/20.

I've noticed that Trefelin done the same today. 20 minutes before kick off and the ref deemed the pitch unplayable. I'm assuming Treharris had travelled all the way down as Trefelin as teams were announced on their Twitter account.
Not sure why these teams risk it when opposition travel so far away?

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Got to say at least Caerau showed intent. The Pitch was deemed playable by an experienced official, what are the club supposed to do? Vogdog you’ve got enough to say when Ely Rangers call a game off referring them to a non footballing side, which may I add is a load of bollocks. Make your fucking mind up!! And of course Caerau wanted the game played, why wouldn’t they??? It’s like the Somme in the summer for fuck sake. Some clubs don’t have the luxury of playing in a ready made stadium or on a carpet. Get a grip. If there is any compensation to be paid to Newport City I’m sure it will be paid, but to no fault of the home side !! This is Welsh League Div 3

I admire teams who make all the effort to get games on but sometimes it's about making the right call at the right time.
I don't know the full facts behind both games so cannot comment specifically about either as there could be many factors to take into consideration. For instance, had a match official already inspected? Was there a sudden downpour? Were the club officials a bit naive? It's also down to judgement as people's opinions will differ and it's all down to the man in the middle to make the official judgement.
It's the matches which get called off when there is clearly no reason to that gets me going and I've seen a lot of that in the past!

I think in fairness it was the timing of the Caerau postponed game with Newport City that caused the problem. If it was a normal Saturday game then I would have thought that the Newport boys wouldn't have been too aggrieved. But given it was in the midst of the festive season when folk like to be merry and party with their chums it was a right party pooper. I take your point Ianto insomuch as Caerau would be damned if they called game off or damned if they invited Newport to travel, it was just that the outcome was poor for both clubs........Caerau will supposedly have to fork out travel expenses while Newport were miffed in spending 2 hours on the bus when they could have been on the pop. Weather forecast wasn't encouraging either and all in all Caerau enterprise turned into a damp squib.

The Gwent Doggers Society (Caldicot East Branch) are reported to be in talks with Caerau about buying their victorian floodlights off them. They like the thought of dim flickering lights in their car park.
That’s it from Voggers in 2017 ✌️
