that would be nearly 10 years ago, when the PFA were trying to provide for players who didn't make it in the pro ranks. Uwic came 3rd in the 1st Division with the last of that group. Sadly, our players have to pay to represent the college - the money from last season's Welsh Cup run did not find its way into the football club. Rugby is set up differently, so they get first claim on taelnetdd players: we compete with the spending clubs in our league, and don't often win out

Alun, don't take this the wrong way, but wouldn't UWIC be better suited plying their trade in the Uni/College leagues? I.e. a level playing field...?

correct me if i'm wrong but UWIC take lads who would otherwise maybe not be able to get into uni, with the proviso that they have to play for the UWIC team?

Uwic play in the universities midweek league, but will not select players registered with other clubs, unlike Swansea and Glamorgan.
Students on our courses must obtain the appropriate exam qualifications. This year, as in others, promising players came to pre-season training, but then had to withdraw when they failed to meet academic standards.
We do not and cannot stop students from playing for oher clubs, otherwise we would be doing a lot better!!!

Mr Evans.... how come....a few years ago i must admit, I got the grades to get into UWIC but was with Newport County at the time. I was told that i would HAVE TO play for the Uni side on a Saturday or i could not attend.
Carried on with County, went to Glamorgan...and......beat UWIC!!!!

that was a different era, before my time. I can only relate how it is now. In the past, the club was controlled by the university, which decided admission policy. Now it is run by the Students' Union as a social commitment. To be honest, I believe students should commit to their college club in return for the specialist tuition they receive, but that's never going to happen again. And I will continue to be disappointed that clubs and supporters fail to see that Uwic makes an unique contribution to the league in delivering players whose technique and coaching skills benefit other teams long after they leave college

Played against UWIC the other week and thought it was a very good set up. Pitch was lovely.
Players as a team weren't the best (too much side to side passing) but individually I'm sure they all could hold their own at least at division 2 clubs, some players maybe higher!
I think they are doing a good job developing players and will more than hold their own in Div 3!

:) No offence but dan Bradley the best in div 1?? There are 4 or 5 better keepers. Not saying he's poor by no means

There are some good keepers in div 1 at the min. Watched Cambrian yesterday against the Corries and the visiting keeper was top draw. From what i was told the corries wouldnt have a single point this year if it wasnt for the goalie.
