I realise my contradiction but as I have not played at any of the grounds and have only watched games I can't comment on the facilities from a players standpoint. For 3G cage see STM Sports ground at The University Playing Fields in Llanrumney. I would prefer to see the original grounds remain and the pitches upgraded to 3G. Merthyr have done this very well in my opinion, retaining the character of the ground while upgrading the pitch to 3G and also improving the bar areas and facilities. I take your points on board Ffanpeldroed but surely there would be a way of upgrading the pitches without having to demolish years of history and character many of the old grounds provide. If it wasn't for the hefty price of 3G and it's maintenance, I'm sure plenty of clubs would like to upgrade their grounds. But because of the price, it comes down to whether the ground is suitable, for investors. Bigger is considered better, mainly because then it's a good multi-purpose area: fit for many to train on, as well as for matches. Treharris' ground may not be the best place for someone to spend their cash. I love what Barry Town, Merthyr Town and Aberystwyth have done transforming their grounds. I'm not anti-3G or anti-old grounds, just logistically, Treharris' ground probably doesn't quite tick all the boxes for a conversion.

The old grounds are diminishing but that dump Treharris was an accident waiting to happen. I don't get how people can get romantic about a place that wasn't fit to house a gerbil . I overheard a supporter from Gwent saying that he could count on the fingers of one hand the amount of nostalgic grounds left in the Welsh League these days . He reeled off 7 clubs.
